The Marseille Carnival is back in force in April 2025

For over three decades, this event has brought together around 10,000 people in the Phocaean city. The theme for this 2025 edition has not yet been revealed, but it promises to be as captivating as previous years.

When will the Marseille Carnival take place this year?

The carnival will take place on April 26, 2025, with the theme "Blue"

Behind the scenes of the 35th edition of the Marseille Carnival, nearly 200 artists and over a hundred children from community centers across the city are already busy. This year, the theme honors the vibrant colors of the sea and sky, promising a colorful and emotional spectacle.

The departure will be at 2:30 PM from La Criée and will proceed to the City Hall. Over 90 street artists and 85 musicians will animate the parade between Quai des Belges and Quai du Port, perched on four monumental floats shaped like a horse, whale, bear, and boat.

Do not confuse it with the independent carnival of La Plaine / Noailles, where Caramantran, a symbolic figure of the year's ills, is judged and burned at the end of the day.

When will the 2025 edition of the independent carnival of La Plaine in Marseille take place?

As winter gives way to spring, taking with it the accumulated difficulties and sorrows, a question arises: how to celebrate the end of these ills? In a world where conflicts seem to beget more conflicts, where one genocide is supposed to erase another, and where capitalism erodes minds and the planet, Carnival will attempt to answer these questions in a festive spirit in its 25th edition.

The 25th edition of the Carnival of La Plaine/Noailles/Réformés - not the 26th edition as stated on the poster - will take place on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Place Jean Jaurès starting at 2 PM. The "trial" will take place at 3 PM, at which time Caramantran will be judged. As every year, the public will participate in a costumed parade in the surrounding streets and enjoy the music. The poster reads "Coming? If so, don't go to AirBnB!", referring to the surge in seasonal rentals in recent years in Marseille, particularly in the popular neighborhoods overrun by tourists. Come in costume or get flour thrown at you, and beware "If you're Airbnb, you're not invited" as the program specifies.

The Marseille version of the song "Adieu paure Carnaval" will be sung, find it on Wikipedia by clicking here.

Affiche du Carnaval de la Plaine 2025

The day before, on Saturday, March 15, 2025, in the early afternoon, an event called "le carnabal" will take place: a parade, folk dance, acoustic concerts, DJ set, costume workshop, and activities. The theme would be support for the "fleas", an underground market near Gèze station and in the Noailles neighborhood, and against "computer bugs": the installation of data centers planned in the Phocaean city and the digital world surrounding it. This theme will also be featured on Sunday, March 16. This "pre-carnival," taking place from 2 PM to 9 PM at Place Jean Jaurès, is an opportunity to get in the mood before Sunday's event.
